Re: Planning for Argumentative Essay (Culminating Assessment)

1. Task Analysis: My assignment is a 1,200โ€“1,500-word argumentative essay that takes a clear position on a debatable issue, supports it with credible evidence, and responds to at least one counterargument, following the strategies from A Dam Good Argument, Chapters 1โ€“3. It is due in three weeks, on the syllabus schedule.

2. Goal(s):
- Choose and narrow my topic by Thursday, so I am not deciding at the last minute.
- Complete a rough outline (thesis + 3 supporting reasons + 1 counterargument) at least one week before the deadline.

3. Anticipated EF Obstacle: My biggest challenge is usually task initiation. I tend to put off starting until I feel ready, which eats into my drafting time.

4. Strategy & Timeline: I will use a "two-minute start": the moment I sit down to work, I will freewrite about my topic for two minutes, even if I do not feel ready. I will schedule three 30-minute work sessions this week (Mon, Wed, Fri at 4:00 PM) rather than waiting for one long session.

5. Success Looks Like: By next class, I will have a chosen topic, a one-sentence working claim, and my three work sessions already on my calendar.

What the assignment requires and when it is due.

One or two specific, achievable goals for getting started.

The specific executive functioning challenge most likely to slow you down.

One concrete strategy, with a specific day/time you will use it.

A short, concrete description of what on track will look like by the next class.

Upload an image from your desktop or phone, for example a photo of your notes, a calendar, or an outline.
